Hello authors!

There is so much information available about how to market your books. Facebook ads. Amazon ads. Email marketing. Social media. I could go on and on with this list.

Before I get your head spinning too much about all the ways you promote your books, I want you to stop and ask yourself one question.

What do you really want for your author career?

On the surface, this may seem like an easy question to answer. I want to write, publish and sell lots of books.

Now dig a little deeper and also take into account the amount of time you realistically have or want to spend on your author business. You have a good idea of how long it takes you to write and publish a book. After the book is out, how much time do you want to spend promoting that book and your backlist?

This question is key to answering my original question.

Do you want to be a full-time author with enough money to support yourself, a part-time author with a decent side-income, or a hobbyist who brings in extra "fun money"? Each of these choices requires a different amount of time and money to make it happen. There is no right or wrong answer. It depends completely on what you want.

Obviously, being a full-time author requires the most of both. You have to be willing to spend the money on excellent book covers, a website, and advertising, and spend the time writing more books, connecting with your readers, and building a solid author business.

Is it possible? Absolutely! But if that's not what you want to spend all your time doing, stop putting pressure on yourself to try to do it all. Figure out what you really want, and do the things that will get you there. If you want to bring in an extra $800 per month, how can you make that happen? If $25 each month works for you, great. Then figure out what you need to do to make it work.

Without a clear understanding of what you are trying to accomplish, it's difficult to create a road map for achieving it.

I will ask one more time (and I'd love for you to share your answer with me).

What do you really want for your author career?

Booklinker Just Got Easier

Check it out for yourself. Go to Booklinker.com and create a new link or go into your dashboard and create a new Collections page. In the last Broadcast I talked about the "New" Button. Here's something else you'll find.

More ways to start a link

Creating a smart link just got more flexible. You can now start with an Apple URL, an Amazon URL, or an ISBN, whichever you have on hand. Booklinker takes it from there and finds the rest of the retailers for you.

And as a reminder, give Booklinker a minute or two after creating or updating a link to find all available stores. Refresh the page if you don't see everything right away.

For more than 20 years, PR by the Book has delivered strategic and tailored PR campaigns designed around our clients and their books, across all genres and ages.

Kickstarter logo

One book link, Every store Booklinker.com 09/12/2026 Hello authors, Currently I’m getting ready to launch my 6th Kickstarter campaign with my coauthor. For the past couple of years, we have been using Kickstarter as an early marketing strategy for a new book or series. When I’ve talked with other authors about Kickstarter, most think you would only use it if you are trying to raise thousands of dollars. The truth is you don’t. Our campaigns have ranged from $100 to $1,000. Our goals with...

Work Together

One book link, Every store Booklinker.com 08/12/2026 Hello authors, You are not my competition. As many of you know, in addition to my work at Booklinker, I'm also an author. I publish sci-fi and fantasy, which means some of you are trying to reach the exact same readers I am. And that's a good thing. Readers don't finish a book they love and think, "Well, I guess I won't be reading any more." They want another book. And another one after that. There are plenty of readers to go around, and...
