Hello authors!

We all feel it. The overwhelm of trying to keep up with every tool out there for marketing your books. Facebook ads, Amazon ads, email, ARCs, links, analytics… It’s a lot.

That’s exactly the mess Jesse Lakes (founder of Geniuslink, the company behind Booklinker) is trying to untangle. He’s building a visual map of the book marketing world: what the tools are, where they fit, and when you actually need them. It’s organized around your journey as an author, not one giant, confusing list. This visual map can help you cut through the noise and focus on what matters for your books.

The best part: he’s building it out in the open and asking authors to help shape it. The first round drew feedback from 15 industry experts, and the map got noticeably better for it. Now he’s sharing the updated version and wants your input.

I’ve had a peek, and it’s going to be a genuinely useful resource for our community. Take a look, and if something’s missing or feels off for your books, share your feedback.

This is your chance to have your voice heard and help build a resource authors will actually use.

Exciting News

I've been working on some exciting upgrades to The Book Marketing Lab. One of the biggest additions is a personalized roadmap through the Author Marketing Course, helping you focus on the lessons that matter most to you. I'm not quite ready to share all the details, but Lab members will be the first to hear more next week.

Psst... I'll let you in on a little secret. Use the promo code LABTEST50 to get 50% off your first month. That makes membership less than the cost of a Starbucks coffee.

In Case You Missed It

Kindle Direct Publishing extended its 70% royalty option on ebooks from the $9.99 price point to $12.99. This is great for authors who like creating book bundles and want to sell them at a higher price point and for nonfiction books, which tend to be priced higher than fiction.

🌟 How to Make Your Books Discoverable by AI

Artificial intelligence is changing how readers discover books, and few people have a broader view of that shift than Rob Prime. An indie author, founder of Publishing.co.uk, co-owner of LoveReading, and head of an Amazon marketing agency, Prime joins Orna Ross on the Self-Publishing with ALLi podcast to explain how AI-powered search is reshaping book discoverability.

🌟 Media-Savvy Author: Make Your Content Multiply Without Burning Out

Do you want to create more content to engage with your audience? I’ll cut to the chase: repurposing your content is a surefire way to put more out there. You know those writers and experts who are always posting content, publishing blogs, and sharing videos? Repurposing content is how they do it! I’m an author myself and I media train authors, and this is what I do myself and what I suggest my clients do too.

🌟 Creative Book Marketing Ideas Beyond the Usual: Merchandise, Fan-Fiction & More

Most authors know the core ingredients of a successful book marketing strategy: build an email list, consistently promote your books, run ads, and keep readers moving through your catalog. And for good reason. Year after year, the most successful indie authors tell us they’re focused on the same fundamentals. They invest in growing their audience, driving visibility, and building reliable systems that help them sell books over the long term. Those foundational marketing activities aren’t optional; they’re what make a sustainable author business possible. But once those pieces are in place, many authors start looking for ways to go beyond the basics.

"We can all talk about marketing and promo and the business all day long, but if the books aren't great, then none of the business stuff really matters." — Bella Andre

One book link, Every store Booklinker.com 09/12/2026 Hello authors, Currently I’m getting ready to launch my 6th Kickstarter campaign with my coauthor. For the past couple of years, we have been using Kickstarter as an early marketing strategy for a new book or series. When I’ve talked with other authors about Kickstarter, most think you would only use it if you are trying to raise thousands of dollars. The truth is you don’t. Our campaigns have ranged from $100 to $1,000. Our goals with...

Work Together

One book link, Every store Booklinker.com 08/12/2026 Hello authors, You are not my competition. As many of you know, in addition to my work at Booklinker, I'm also an author. I publish sci-fi and fantasy, which means some of you are trying to reach the exact same readers I am. And that's a good thing. Readers don't finish a book they love and think, "Well, I guess I won't be reading any more." They want another book. And another one after that. There are plenty of readers to go around, and...
